The Salesians reopened Berhampore as the mission centre for the whole of Murshidabad District in 1955. Rev. Fr. Lazzaro sdb was the first Salesian to reside in this town which is also the headquarters of Murshidabad District.  In 1961 the Sisters of Mary Immaculate began their apostolic work by establishing a house, which was blessed by Rt.
